decking is nice as there is no need for much of a step down. it also dries faster in the morning if you live in a dewy kind of place. i have a flagged patio and a deck, the patio tends to need to be swept more often. i think things on the deck tend to disappear into the cracks more often.

Learn MoreIn a concrete mixer, add the determined amount of water and then the concrete mix. You can also mix this in a wheelbarrow with a shovel. Use as little water as possible. Water makes the concrete more maneuverable but it also weakens the constitution of the final product. A drier mix makes the concrete more crack resistant. Turn on the machine.

Learn MoreThese possible advantages included reduced cracking tendency and lower permeability. If this is true, enhanced durability performance could result in lightweight concrete bridge decks being a more economical choice than normalweight concrete bridge decks for some applications.
Learn MoreREDUCED CRACKING TENDENCY OF LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE Early-age cracking of concrete bridge decks, typically caused by thermal effects, drying shrinkage, and autogenous shrinkage can have detrimental effects on long-term behavior and durability.

Learn MoreInternally cured concrete has mostly been used in bridge deck applications to date; however, researchers have investigated extending the use of internal curing to pavements (5). The following sections describe recent activity in continuously reinforced concrete pavements, jointed plain concrete pavements, concrete patches, and concrete overlays.
Learn MorePolymer cement concrete is a composite concrete that consist of synthetic polymer within the binding material. Polymer concrete has advantages of higher properties, low energy requirements and low labor costs. It is also called as Polymer Portland cement concrete (PPCC) or latex-modified concrete (LMC).
Learn MoreIndividual contractors and poor construction practices, particularly poor consolidation and overfinishing the concrete, can significantly affect cracking even when the decks are cast with a low-shrinkage concrete (paste content limited to 27.2%) even where a crack-reducing technology is used. Learn Morecracks in concrete. Using a water reducer to reduce the cement and water content of a concrete mixture—while maintaining a constant water-cement ratio—can result in equal or reduced compressive strength, and can increase slump loss by a factor of two or more (Whiting and Dziedzic 1992). Water reducers decrease, increase, or have no effect on

Learn MoreOct 22, · Although structural lightweight aggregate concrete (SLWAC) has been used for more than 2000 years, it only assumed greater relevance in construction in the middle of the twentieth century, especially in solutions where the self-weight is a relevant factor, such as in high-rise buildings, shell
Learn Morescenario). Shrinkage can also lead to cracking in the grout which can be detrimental to the installation. Learn MoreRemedial works on concrete bridge structures often include the requirement for void filling, fixing and sealing or bedding and grouting with free-flowing materials. Typical examples are concrete repairs using formwork, high precision grouting under bridge bearing plates, or for cable duct grouting.
Learn MoreUsing lightweight mortar for various structural and nonstructural applications provides many advantages such as high specific strength (i.e. strength to density ratio) as well as good heat insulation. On the other hand, recent researches showed that
Learn MoreConcrete strength also comes into play, but most slab concrete is around 3000 to 4000 psi, so it's not a major factor. The tensile strength of concrete is typically taken as 10 to 15% of the compressive strength, so only about 400 or 500 psi. Compare that to the tensile strength of Grade 60 rebar, which is 60,000 psi.
Learn MoreCracks that occur before hardening usually are the result of set-tlement within the concrete mass, or shrinkage of the surface (plastic-shrinkage cracks) caused by rapid loss of water while the concrete is still plastic (Fig. 2). Settlement cracks may develop over embedded items, such as reinforcing steel, or adjacent to forms or hardened
Learn MoreLightweight concrete instead uses a variety of alternate aggregate materials that may include more porous rock like pumice, manufacturing byproducts like fly ash or slag, or clay, shale or slate that has been treated with a heat process that expands the material and creates a series of internal pores in the aggregate. Learn MoreOct 01, · When a reinforced concrete bridge deck is subjected to freeze-thaw cycles and de-icing salts over a number of years, the ensuing deterioration drastically reduces the structure’s service life and results in costly maintenance or early replacement. In such severe environments, high-performance concrete (HPC) is often required because of its superior strength and low permeability.
